How to spot and avoid job application scams

Pause and verify an opportunity if it asks for money, banking secrets or urgent action. Use a contact route you find independently to check the employer.

Scam safety

Pause if an opportunity asks for money or secrets

A careful check cannot guarantee a job is genuine, but it can help you spot reasons to stop and verify.

Keep your money and information safe

Check the employer through a contact route you find independently, not only through a message or link in an advert.

Never pay to apply for a job.
  • Do not pay an application, registration, background-check, training or priority fee.
  • Never share a bank password, card PIN, one-time PIN or online-banking login for a job.
  • Be cautious about urgent pressure, unusually high pay, vague duties or messaging-only contact.
  • Check that the application link belongs to the employer or an official portal.

Need to check an opportunity?

Use contact information you find independently on the employer’s official website. Keep a copy of the advert link and message, but do not send identity documents or banking details to an unverified contact.

Report suspected fraud through an official channel. This website does not collect or investigate scam reports.
